Joint Security Area Between North Korea and South Korea (Summer 2011)
A South Korean soldier stands guard at the Joint Security Area (JSA) in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North Korea and South Korea. The site is used for diplomatic engagements and military negotiations, but also is described by tour guides as the most dangerous place on earth. Tourists have to sign a waiver that reads in part, “The visit to the Joint Security Area at Panmunjom will entail entry into a hostile area and possibility of injury or death as a direct result of enemy action.” www.thomaspeipert.com.
